ASB Cards

Students may purchase ASB (Associated Student Body) cards at the school bank at a cost of $15.00. Any student who wishes to participate in sports, cheerleading, student government, have a hall locker, etc., is required to purchase an ASB card. This card allows students to receive discounts on items such as dance tickets and yearbooks, and be admitted FREE to most football and basketball games.

Student ID Cards

Student ID cards must be visibly worn at all times while on campus. A student ID card is required for entrance to all dances, athletic events, testing, and library or career center computer use. An ID must also be presented for student work permits. Surprise ID card “sweeps” are done regularly and students found without an ID card are assigned detention and required to purchase a replacement card.  A $5.00 fee is charged for replacement ID cards.

PE Uniforms

All students are required to wear a James Lick physical education uniform and appropriate shoes, generally sport shoes. T-shirts and shorts are available at the school bank for $20.00 per set.

Lockers

Lockers are issued as a convenience to our students; locker use is not required. Students who choose to use a locker are required to have a valid ASB card and must bring their own locks. Please be advised that neither the school nor the district will be responsible for personal or school property that is lost or stolen from either a hall locker or PE locker.

School Bank

At the school bank students can purchase PE uniforms, ASB cards, yearbooks and more. Students can also pay student fines or testing related fees. Hall locker registration is also done through the school bank. The school bank is open daily to all students during break and lunch. Students will not be served during class time without a pass from their teacher indicating specific school bank related business.

Library

The James Lick library is open every day during regular school hours. The library is also open 3:15-4:45pm, Tuesday through Friday, for our tutoring/homework-help program. Thirty computers are available for student use.  Students are permitted to check out books and other materials found in the library. Fees/penalties will be applied to the student’s account if books or materials are not returned by their designated due date.

Career Center

A work permit is only one of the items students can get in the career center. Students can also get important information about colleges and community service opportunities, use the computers to type assignments or to do project research on the Internet. Upcoming college events, summer internships and scholarship information are also posted in the career center. The career center is open to all students during regular school hours. Students must present a pass from their teacher to use the computer lab during class time.

Yearbooks

James Lick’s yearbook, The Argus, is produced by the Yearbook Class and published by the student body. Students should buy theirs early as only a limited number of yearbooks are ordered and the price increases as the school year goes on.  A yearbook installment plan, available in the bank, will guarantee the lowest purchase price.  The deadline to apply for this plan is Friday, Oct. 13th. An ASB card/yearbook package may be available.

Student Parking

All students who drive motor vehicles to school are required to have a James Lick Parking Permit displayed in or on their vehicles. In order to obtain a permit a student will be required to:

1. Complete a school parking registration form (signed by a parent)

2. Pay a non-refundable $5.00 fee (covers cost of the parking tags, etc.- FREE with valid ASB card)

Students and parents are advised that students may park only in the student parking lot and that all California Vehicle Code laws must be observed.

Work Permits

All students who are under the age of 18 and have not yet graduated from high school or obtained a GED must have a valid Work Permit to be employed in the state of California. Work permits are employer specific and are not transferable from employer to employer. If a student has a work permit for their current employer and changes jobs, a new work permit must be obtained. To be eligible for a work permit a student must:

1. have an offer of employment

2. obtain a work permit application from the career center

3. complete the work permit application in full, including valid social security number, and have the form signed by both the employer and the student’s parent or guardian

4. have good attendance and no “F” grades for the most recent grading period. If the student has poor attendance or grades, a probationary permit may be issued at the discretion of the school administration.

For more information about work permits, or to obtain a work permit application, visit the career center during break or lunch.

Student Fines

A “fine” is a fee that is charged for the loss or damage of school property that has been checked out to an individual student. Fines will follow a student regardless of the school or district the student is attending.  If fines are not cleared prior to the end of the student’s senior year, his/her diploma will be withheld and he/she may be excluded from participating in the graduation ceremony. Any student can check his/her account status in the bookroom during break or lunch, daily. All student fines can be paid during break or lunch at the school bank.
