Varsity Head Coach: Tommy Luu

Coach Tommy Luu:

As we begin the season shortly, we would like to say a few words. Everything we do will be as one and be a direct representation of the school and its pillars.  We will be representing the district, program, teammates, and more importantly, as individuals and your family. Our goal is to develop strong, smart, and hard working Student-Athletes along with leading young adults to an outstanding Girls’ Basketball season. I would like to welcome everyone to the James Lick Lady Comets’ Girls Basketball program. My name is Tommy Luu and Head Coach of the Girls’ Varsity program. Along with my JV Head Coach Anna Chavez and JV Assistant Coach Stephanie Gonzalez, are looking to build and develop the student-athletes into even better students, but more importantly people. It is important to use basketball as an  avenue to learn accountability, effort, self-discipline, unity, and respect. As the Head Coach of the Girls’ Varsity program, I am ready to lead these student-athletes. I am a native of San Jose, California and received my bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and minor in Business from San Jose State University in 2013. As a student, I spent two seasons (2011-2013) as the Head Team Manager at San Jose State University.

As part of the SJSU Mens’ Basketball Program’s staff, my duties included, but were not limited to, coordinating and directing skill development workouts, film breakdown, film exchange, scouting opponents, monitoring academics, recruiting databases, recruiting mail outs, overseeing student managers, and directing summer camps. I spent the next two years as a Head Coach for the Ballin’ Ambassadors basketball club (11U, 12U, 13U, 14U, and 16U) along with assistant coach for the 17U teams. I also spent one season as the Head Assistant Coach for the Gunderson Boys’ Varsity Basketball program.
